Raised in rural Idaho, John Van Der Giessen learned the values of hard work, perseverance, and integrity at an early age. Those principles helped propel him from a small-town upbringing to an international professional rugby career, representing the United States Men’s National Team in both the 2007 and 2011 Rugby World Cups and earning the honor of serving as team captain for the USA Eagles. John also competed professionally in two of the world’s premier rugby leagues—the French Top 14 and the English Premiership—competing against some of the best players in the sport.

Today, John brings that same competitive drive, discipline, and leadership to his real estate career. With more than a decade of experience and over $90 million in career real estate sales, he has built a reputation as a strong negotiator, trusted advisor, and relentless advocate for his clients.

John particularly enjoys helping first-time home buyers, families relocating to Idaho, and homeowners looking to rightsize into a home that better aligns with their lifestyle and goals. Whether guiding a buyer through their first purchase, helping a family navigate a major move, or assisting a seller in maximizing their home’s value, he is committed to delivering clear communication, thoughtful strategy, and exceptional service throughout the process.

As a member of the 208 Market Real Estate Team, John combines market expertise, strategic thinking, and a client-first approach to help individuals and families confidently navigate one of life’s most important financial decisions.

When he is not serving clients, John enjoys spending time with his wife, Lisa, and chasing their five children. Whether exploring Idaho’s outdoors, supporting his children’s activities, or creating family adventures, he values the relationships and experiences that make a house feel like home. His passion for serving people, combined with a lifetime of competition, leadership, and community involvement, continues to shape the way he approaches both real estate and life.
